Nicomac Mangini's seismic cleanrooms are the result of years of research and significant investments. Since 2013, Mangini has been committed to seismic innovation for partition walls and non-structural elements, in collaboration with Professor Gennaro Magliulo, the University of Naples Federico II, and the Italian National Research Council (CNR). With the first shaking table test, carried out in 2015 on our modular walls, Mangini became the first company internationally to offer modular wall systems with seismic certification. This initial success was followed by numerous other dynamic test campaigns, conducted according to the international AC156 protocol, on various Mangini products intended for different applications: from hospitals to schools, from airports to public buildings, where safety requirements are extremely strict and binding.

In recent years, the group has also obtained seismic certification for cleanrooms, thanks to numerous shaking table tests, the latest of which was conducted in 2021. Nicomac Mangini is still the only company in the world capable of offering integrated systems for cleanrooms – walls, ceilings, and related systems – with specific seismic certification.

The testing protocol adopted for full-scale tests is the international one provided by the ICC Evaluation Service, Inc., AC156, "Acceptance Criteria for Seismic Qualification by Shake-Table Testing of Nonstructural Components and Systems" (ICC, 2010). This standard has allowed us to obtain internationally recognized seismic qualification and to demonstrate that all our products remain fully operational even under relative displacements greater than 1.2% and accelerations exceeding 2G.

The Culture of Risk Awareness

Adopting seismic solutions for cleanrooms as a system of non-structural elements is a legal requirement in Italy. The Italian Technical Standards for Constructions (NTC2018) and the subsequent explanatory circular from February 2019 are laws of the state and mandate experimental testing to determine the seismic performance of partitions with respect to inter-floor displacements. These standards also specify that, for constructions with public or strategically important functions, such as cleanrooms in the pharmaceutical sector, for example, internal partitions must be seismic-resistant and remain operational after an earthquake without collapsing.
